Last week Russia and six other nations carried out a largescale military exercise called Kavkaz-2020 (Caucasus 2020).

The exercise took place predominantly in Russia’s Southern Military District, a region that stretches from Russian-occupied Crimea in the west, to the Caspian Sea in the east, and the volatile North Caucasus in the middle.

Approximately 80,000 soldiers participated in the exercise. The vast majority of these troops were from Russia, but soldiers from Armenia, Belarus, China, Iran, Myanmar and Pakistan also participated. The military drills also involved 250 tanks, almost 500 armoured personnel carriers, around 200 pieces of artillery, and ships from both the Russian and Iranian navies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also watch his armed forces in action at the Kapustin Yar Military Base on September 25th.
