Police raided the Moscow apartment of the chief editor of the Insider news outlet Roman Dobrokhotov on Wednesday after the media outlet was labelled a foreign agent a week ago.

Footage shows Dobrokhotov leaving the apartment building and proceeding to a police van. He was answering the reporters’ questions on the way. Dobrokhotov confirmed the search is connected to his recent tweet about a Dutch blogger.

The ‘Pravozaschita Otkrytki’ legal aid group, which sent their lawyer to the journalist’s apartment, posted on Telegram that Dobrokhotov is involved in a libel case opened in April 2021, regarding a tweet containing ‘disinformation on downed Boeing MH-17.’ The tweet was posted from Dobrokhotov’s account.

The Insider says the case opened following the Dutch citizen Max van der Werff’s libel lawsuit against them. The outlet added that police seized laptops, phones, tablets, and Dobrokhotov’s international passport during the raid. ‘Pravozaschita Otkrytki’ published a post explaining that the journalist’s parents’ home was raided on the same day.

The Insider was labeled a foreign agent media outlet on July 23.
