Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the US hysteria over Russia-Ukraine situation has “reached its climax,” commenting on the telephone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US counterpart Joe Biden, on Saturday.
According to Ushakov, Washington requested to arrange phone talks between the leaders even though such a call had initially been planned for Monday.
“Other counties administration officials had also demanded urgent phone calls with the similar request and they had conversations with many Russian counterparts yesterday and today. In other words, сo-ordinated attempts were made to raise tensions around the “invasion” issue. The hysteria has actually reached its climax,” he said.
Despite this the conversation was rather balanced and business-like, Ushakov added.
“President Biden even referred to his predecessors’ experience, who did everything to avoid disaster and serious conflict between our countries during the Cold War. He said that although the two great powers are still rivalling now, we must do everything possible to maintain stability and security around the world. He also stressed everything possible must be done to avoid a worst-case scenario in the conflict with the current situation around Ukraine,” the Kremlin aide concluded.
According to the latest guidance published by the UK’s government on Saturday, British nationals have been instructed to “leave now while commercial means are still available” amid an increased “threat of military action” on Ukraine’s borders with Russia.
Similarly, the US Department of State also published an updated travel advisory guidance on Saturday, classifying Ukraine in their ‘Level 4: Do Not Travel’ category. The advisory warns of “increased threats of military action and COVID-19” and urges US nationals to “depart immediately via commercial or private means.”
In a published announcement on Saturday, following a call between Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden on the subject of the ongoing tensions in Ukraine, the White House warned that Biden was “clear” that a “further invasion of Ukraine” by Russia would be responded to “decisively” with “swift and severe costs” for Moscow.

SOT, Yuri Ushakov, Assistant of President of Russia (Russian): “Today’s conversation came amid unprecedented attempts by US officials to whip up hysteria about an allegedly imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine. We all know that. By the way, the US cited the possibility of such a devastating scenario when requesting today’s phone call between the presidents, although the conversation was initially scheduled for Monday. That was the plan we had. Other counties administration officials had also demanded urgent phone calls with the similar request and they had conversations with many Russian counterparts yesterday and today. In other words, сo-ordinated attempts were made to raise tensions around the “invasion” issue. The hysteria has actually reached its climax.”

SOT, Yuri Ushakov, Assistant of President of Russia (Russian): “They raise tension around our troops movement on our state territory, even if not far from the Ukrainian borders, on for months. The situation reached the point of absurdity in the past several days and hours. And I absolutely agree with this. The facts are that Americans are artificially whipping up hysteria around an alleged Russian plan for [Ukraine] invasion, even providing the dates of such an invasion, but simultaneously boosts Ukraine’s military muscle, earmarking huge financial resources to modernise the Ukrainian army and increasing the number of military instructors being deployed there. So, under these allegations about an ‘invasion’ the conditions are being created for the Ukrainian armed forces to take provocative actions amid allegations about an “invasion.”
