Russia: Leaders of Fair Russia and Yabloko discuss social policies ahead of Duma elections

As Russia’s 2021 legislative elections near, Fair Russia - For Truth chairman, Sergei Mironov, and chairman of the Yabloko party, Nikolay Rybakov, discussed social policies during an interview in Moscow, the footage of which was released on Tuesday.

“The increase of retirement age was wrong, unfair, and, of course, it should be returned to the normal: 55 years for women, 60 for men”, said Mironov, adding that his party has already submitted such an initiative. Mironov also argued in favour of criminal punishment for paedophiles.

Fair Russia — For Truth is a party initially created in 2006, although it has undergone many changes since. It was initially Fair Russia, formed as a merger of three small factions; the Party of Life, Rodina, and the Pensioners’ Party. Earlier in 2021, Fair Russia merged with the For Truth and Patriots of Russia party, thus creating Fair Russia-For Truth. In 2016, the Fair Russia faction received 6 per cent of the vote.

‘Yabloko’ was founded in 1993 by Grigory Yavlinsky, Yury Boldyrev and Vladimir Lukin. In 2016, the party received two per cent of the party-list vote.

Russia’s 2021 legislative elections are set to take place on September 19, with voting to run across three days, starting on September 17. Voters will elect 450 State Duma deputies in total, via two methods as per Russia’s mixed electoral system. Half will be selected from party lists in one federal constituency, with the other 225 elected in single-mandate constituencies under the first-past-the-post voting system.

Many have problems. Also there are serious issues with the development of cancer diseases in our country”.
