Russia: Leaders of systemic opposition parties discuss programmes ahead of State Duma elections

The Communist Party’s leader Gennady Zyuganov and the head of Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) Vladimir Zhirinovsky spoke to journalists in Moscow on Tuesday ahead of Russia’s 2021 legislative election.

“It is fundamentally important for us to support people’s enterprises so that everyone has a high salary, we don’t take anything from the state, we provide an excellent social package, affordable education, healthcare and good jobs, housing,” said Zyuganov.

“This experience can be extended to the whole country already tomorrow, it is not difficult to do”, added Zyuganov.

His rival Vladimir Zhirinovsky criticized changes to current policies in agriculture: “A great breakthrough has been made, but sales are low, sales are low.”

As a solution to the problem, Zhirinovsky has proposed the building of markets for local producers.

“If you grew potatoes, you have the right to sell them. If you grew a pig, you have the right to sell it. But there is still no possibility to do so.
That is, we have not yet provided a market,” explained Zhirinovsky

In the 2016 legislative election, the LDPR vote result came in at 13,39 percent, leaving them in third place behind United Russia (55.23 percent) and the Communist Party (13.59 percent).

This year’s elections are set to take place on September 19, while the voting will be extended across three days, starting on September 17.

225 parliamentarians of the State Duma will be elected from party lists, while another 225 will win in single-mandate constituencies.

We see the weakness of Russia’s foreign policy in indecision, in the fact that we think for a long time. Ukraine should be well known, everything would have been decided long ago in 2014.”
