Russia: Putin holds talks with Serbian President Vucic in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic for bilateral talks in Sochi on Thursday.

Putin said Moscow and Belgrade needed to discuss gas exports as Belgrade’s contract with Moscow is expiring soon.

“I think that we will come to an agreement and will ask our business entities to conclude this work, or, in any case, we will find an acceptable solution for our Serbian friends,” the Russian leader said.

The Serbian president in his part expressed his condolences to the families of victims of the coal mine accident in the Kemerovo region.

Putin called the accident “a great tragedy” adding he had already talked with the Kemerovo region governor and the rescue services.

I think that we will come to an agreement and will ask our business entities to conclude this work, or, in any case, we will find an acceptable solution for our Serbian friends.”

To be honest, I have already asked the services to deal with rescuing people and help the victims and their families. Of course, they are in my thoughts. I have already talked to the governor of the Kemerovo region and the heads of the rescue services several times. They are doing everything they can, but unfortunately, the situation is not getting any easier, and there is danger to the lives of the rescuers themselves. Now the necessary decisions are being made there. Let’s hope that as many people as possible will be saved.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): “Relations continue to develop in the humanitarian sphere. Serbian students study in Russia at different universities and in different fields. We thank you for supporting the Russian language in Serbian schools - in general, the situation is developing very positively in this area.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): “I am pleased to note that we not only delivered Sputnik V to Serbia, but we set up its production in Belgrade as well, which is extremely important both for Serbia and for neighbouring countries, where you can deliver this product from your plant.”
