Russia has almost reached the pre-pandemic level in trade relations with Greece, President Vladimir Putin told Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Sochi on Wednesday.

“Today our bilateral relations are developing positively. Last year we saw a decline in trade of about 35 percent, whereas this year we see an increase of 56 percent, so we have almost reached the pre-pandemic level,” Putin said at the bilateral meeting.

In his turn, Mitsotakis hoped for further development of ties between Athens and Moscow.

“It was very important that we reached an agreement on the celebration of the year of Russian and Greek History in 2020-2021. This could serve as an impetus for further development of our mutual relations, including the economic sphere,” stressed Mitsotakis.

The Greek prime minister added that he was pleased to visit Russia during the year of 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution, which led to “the emergence of an independent Greek state”.

“We never forget that Russia played an essential role in that process. And also thanks to the efforts of the great powers of the time, Greece found the strength to become an independent modern state,” concluded Mitsotakis.
