Residents of the Novy Okkervil residential complex in Kudrovo, Leningrad Oblast, spoke about the pros and cons of living in the giant building on Monday.

Drone footage showed the immense 990-metre tall residence, which contained a total of 3,708 apartments

“At least my friends are nearby, and in general, I know many people here,” said resident Vladislav Bulanov, but noted that the large number of cars owned by residents made parking difficult.

“I don’t feel any pressure, because there is a park nearby, and I can always go for a walk there, get some space. I personally like to live here,” said neighbour Marina Mikhailova.

According to the housing developer, more than 60 functioning objects of infrastructure are already working or will be opened in the near future at the complex, including a polyclinic, a school for 1600 pupils and three kindergartens.

SOT, Vladislav Bulanov, Resident of Novy Okkervil complex (Russian): “Advantages? At least my friends are nearby, and in general, I know many people here. But there are many more disadvantages, of course. The first and most essential is the very large population of the house. Just look at the house. Ten thousand people live here, and almost everyone has a car. In addition, look how the house is arranged. There are playgrounds in between the parking lots. And the parking lot is so small that people have to leave their cars anywhere but in the right spot.”

SOT, Vladislav Bulanov, Resident of Novy Okkervil complex (Russian): “The second significant disadvantage is the design of the courtyards. If you walk through that archway, any archway, it blows so hard that it literally knocks you down. It’s very disturbing.”

SOT, Marina Mikhailova, Resident of Novy Okkervil complex (Russian): “I live here, and the fact that there are so many people here, it does not bother me. I don’t feel any pressure, because there is a park nearby, and I can always go for a walk there, get some space. I personally like to live here.”

SOT, Dmitry Novoseltsev, Resident of Novy Okkervil complex (Russian): “I grew up in the countryside [and have lived there] all my life. For me, these walls, these lights are a pleasure for me. It doesn’t disturb me. No pressure at all.”
