RT deputy editor-in-chief Anna Belkina called the German watchdog’s decision to ban RT DE Productions from broadcasting ‘absurd’ and ‘hypocritical,’ speaking from Moscow on Friday.

“Their explanations are pretty absurd. They are saying that RT DE Productions, which is an entirely independent production company, is actually the TV channel that broadcasts from Germany. […] There is generally absolutely no broadcasting happening from Berlin at all,” said Belkina.

According to Belkina, RT DE Productions have confirmed they will appeal the decision in court.

“We can’t really respond to the regulator because they do not address us, but RT DE Productions is going to contest this judgment in court. They have about four weeks to do so in Berlin,” she added.

RT launched a new around-the-clock news channel in German, comprising broadcasting news, talk shows, and documentary programmes on Thursday, December 16.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that it would take action in response against German media accredited in Russia.
