Lavrov says Moscow might be ‘forced to answer’ to RT DE exclusion from broadcasting in Europe

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on RT DE’s exclusion from European broadcast by European satellite service Eutelsat 9, speaking in an exclusive interview to RT in Moscow, Wednesday.

Earlier today European satellite service Eutelsat 9 removed the broadcast of Moscow-based German-language channel RT DE from its platform.

RT launched a new around-the-clock news channel in German, comprising broadcasting news, talk shows, and documentary programmes on Thursday, December 16.

On Friday, December 17, the European Representative of the Directors’ Conference of the Media Authorities, Tobias Schmid, called the newly launched channel a “nuisance” that needs to be “dealt with” as he questioned its right to broadcast.

Shortly after, local German media regulator MABB informed Berlin-based RT DE Productions about opening a court case. RT deputy editor-in-chief Anna Belkina commented on the case saying that “we believe that the law is on our side, that the right is on our side because we dotted all the Is and crossed all the Ts and did everything exactly as we should have. And so believe that at the end of the day we will prevail”.
