Russia: St. Petersburg residents line up for COVID vaccination

Dozens of local residents queued at the Gallery shopping mall in St. Petersburg on Tuesday to receive their vaccination against coronavirus.

Earlier, the city authorities decided to tighten restrictive measures due to the deterioration of the situation with COVID-19.

From November 1st, when attending sports and exhibition events, one will, reportedly, need to present a QR code confirming the user was one time positive to the virus, has received the vaccination or has medical exemption from the vaccination.

In addition, a maximum of 40 people will be able to attend mass events without the consent of the authorities. Employers are recommended to organise remote work for their employees from November 1st to November 3rd.

According to the press service of the St. Petersburg administration, from October 30 to November 7, restrictions are imposed on the work of catering establishments, retail trade, entertainment, and leisure facilities. In accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, these days are declared non-working.

St. Petersburg governor Alexander Beglov said that over the past week, daily vaccination rates have doubled, but this is not enough. In his opinion, it is necessary to increase the number of vaccinations per day to about 40,000.

According to the city authorities, 2,735 coronavirus cases were detected in the city on Tuesday. In total, 691,828 cases of infection have been registered in St. Petersburg since the beginning of the pandemic.
