Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the situation on the Belarus-Poland border in a video conference with the head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Francesco Rocca, in Moscow on Sunday.
The president stated that Poland’s actions at the border should be ‘watched’ by the international community, in an ‘appropriate and the most attentive way.’
“People should not be watered down with water and herbicides and pesticides added to the water in order to cause burns and other serious consequences for these migrants, including women and young children”, said Putin.
Putin went on to allege how many migrants had died at the border, stating, “They bury them there almost every day.”
A migrant crisis escalated in November after thousands of migrants set up tent camps on the Belarus-Poland border and attempted to cross the frontier.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President (Russian): “We need to be certified by the World Health Organisation as soon as possible so that our Sputnik V vaccine, which you mentioned, can be distributed more widely around the world. Already today, approximately 200 million people have been vaccinated with our vaccine. But we still need to ensure that people who have been vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine have the same opportunity as people vaccinated with other vaccines to move freely around the world, to feel like full citizens, so to speak, in the global sense of humanity and would not be restricted in any way in their rights, including the right to move across borders of the world.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President (Russian): “We should probably watch what is happening at the border and what the authorities of the neighbouring country, in this case the Republic of Poland, are doing in an appropriate and the most attentive way. People should not be watered down with water and herbicides and pesticides added to the water in order to cause burns and other serious consequences for these migrants, including women and young children. But this is not at all consistent with the principles of humane treatment of migrants. How many people have already died and been buried at the border? They bury them there almost every day. It’s just a misfortune, we should also pay attention to it. I always pay attention to this in my contacts and conversations with colleagues from European countries.”
