Serbia: Thousands protest against air pollution in Belgrade

Thousands of people took to the streets of Belgrade on Sunday to protest against the growing air pollution in the capital.
Protesters also lit candles in memory of those who have died from the pollution.
“Serbia has a very dramatic problem with air pollution. We have the highest mortality in Europe, and one of the highest mortalities in the world so today we will try to continue the campaign that we are having for one year now” said one of the protesters.
Demonstrators demand government start using an alarm system whenever pollution reaches a critical level, to close landfills in Belgrade’s suburbs, and to increase monitoring of factories causing most pollution.
Belgrade has been at the top of the world’s most polluted cities in recent years.
