Cleaning operations began in the aftermath of the car bomb explosion that killed at least eight people and wounded nine others outside Mogadishu’s international airport on Wednesday.
Damaged cars could be seen amid rubble in the middle of the street.
According to local news, a UN convoy passing by was the target of the attack; however, the UN mission reported that no UN workers were inside the vehicles.
The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group, which controls parts of Somalia, has later publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was targeting ‘white officials’ driving by.
