South Africa: St George's Cathedral memorial bells, flowers honour Desmond Tutu in Cape Town

Tributes were left outside of St George’s Cathedral in Capetown on Monday, in memory of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu. South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa also paid his respects by visiting Tutu’s residence in Milnerton.

“I feel he has been a massive figure for South Africa, especially for young boys and girls as well. With myself growing up, I remember him frequently being everywhere and someone who was spoken about and you heard about him quite often and he was really well liked in South Africa,” commented a mourner.

Desmond Tutu died at the age of 90. The religious leader spent his life advocating for civil rights and speaking out against inequality, corruption, and oppression.

With myself growing up, I remember him frequently being everywhere and someone who was spoken about and you heard about him quite often and he was really well liked in South Africa, everyone.”

SOT, Mourner: “Everything was always in the superlative. Wonderful, wonderful. But he also gave superlatively, he loved superlatively, but also he admonished superlatively.”
