Lava continued to spew out of a new fissure in the Cumbre Vieja volcano as part of an ongoing eruption on the island of La Palma, on Sunday.
The new fissure opened during the early hours of Saturday, on the north-eastern slope of the volcano.

According to local reports, large clouds of smoke rose into the air from the new centre emitting incandescent pyro clasts, which caused a spike in seismicity on the island.

As a result, the island recorded more than 50 tremors with magnitudes of 3.5 on the Richter scale, according to the IGN (National Geographic Institute).
The eruption of the volcano has been taking place since September 19.
