Madrid locals lined up to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at the Nurse Isabel Zendal Hospital on Thursday.

A resident, Gemma, said the whole process was quite fast. “I didn’t have to wait much, I arrived and waited for two, three minutes before the vaccination and then I rested for ten minutes and for the registry maybe I had to wait a bit more, but everything was quite well.”

Health Minister Carolina Darias said on Monday that 83.1 percent of new COVID-19 cases were among unvaccinated people in the past five weeks. Hospitalisations have increased by 65 percent in a week.

The number of new daily cases has been on an upward trend, with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants rising to 622.4 on Tuesday.

SOT, Sheila, Local (Spanish): “Everything was alright in the queue, it was quick, five minutes, I got vaccinated, they told me they were going to give me Moderna and that I had to wait for five minutes for the registry and that’s it, I got the certificate.”

SOT, Javier, Local (Spanish): “Everything was perfect, I didn’t have to wait at all, I went right in, I had to wait five minutes inside, then ten minutes and another five at the registry, perfect.”
