Scuffles erupted between agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan regional police) and hundreds of Antifa activists who were protesting on Thursday at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) during an event ‘in favour of freedom of expression.’

The officers used their batons to push back the activists gathered in the facilities.

The event had been called by the unionist organisation S’ha Acabat, and it was attended by members of the right-wing parties Vox, Ciudadanos, and Partido Popular.

“We defend all those teachers to teach the classes in the language they consider, and also all the students who study at this university in order to express themselves, whatever they think,” said Julia Calvet, president of the S’ha Acabat association.
