UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the international community to engage with the Taliban, Monday, speaking at a donor conference for Afghanistan at the UN European headquarters in Geneva.
“It is impossible to provide humanitarian assistance inside Afghanistan without engaging with the de facto authorities of the country,” Guterres said, adding it was “very important to engage with the Taliban at the present moment for all aspects that concern the international community.”
“Our attitude is to engage,” the UN chief concluded.
Guterres also appealed to UN members to find mechanisms to avoid the collapse of the Afghan economy.
