Syria: At least 2 killed after hospital hit in shelling of Daraa

Two people were reportedly killed at the National Hospital in the city of Daraa, southwestern Syria, Thursday, after the hospital was allegedly hit as government-backed forces and rebels fight in the city, a former opposition stronghold that came back under President Bashar Al-Assad control in 2018.

Several men were seen recovering from their wounds atop the stretchers, some of them with their faces covered in blood and connected to assisted breathing machines.

According to reports, at least 12 people have been killed due to fighting and shelling in Daraa on Thursday, as the Syrian army attempts to crush an insurrection and regain control of areas taken by anti-government forces.

The fresh fighting in Daraa began on Monday when government forces fired artillery shells towards a southern district of the city, and intensified on Thursday after opposition forces launched a counter-attack on Syrian army checkpoints.
