The Chief Executive Officer of Moby Media Group, the largest media group in Afghanistan, has stated that the Taliban are ‘trying to win hearts and minds,’ during an video interview on Tuesday.

CEO Saad Mohseni first spoke on the decision by Tolo News, a news company under Moby Group, to have a female presenter interview a Taliban representative earlier on Tuesday, calling it an ‘opportune moment’ to see whether the Taliban are really in favour of women being in the workplace.

Regarding the recent capture of Kabul by the Islamic Fundamentalist Group, Mohseni said, “The Taliban are trying to win hearts and minds, they’re trying to convince political establishments, people outside the Taliban movement, to join and support the movement, they’re trying to secure international support.”

“What the Taliban do in the coming weeks will determine what people do in the years ahead,” stated Mohseni, adding that it is the youths, who make up the majority of the population, that have the power to ‘make or break the country’.

SOT, Saad Mohseni, CEO of Moby Media Group: “Well I think it was just an opportune moment for us to see whether they abide by what they’ve been saying, like for example they’re for free media and for women being in the workplace. I thought the timing was good and why not have this lady question the Taliban representative. By the way, it’s the first time ever that the Taliban have spoken on TV with a woman while in power, they certainly didn’t do it in the 1990’s, so it’s history.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Saad Mohseni, CEO of Moby Media Group: “This is a very strange moment for everyone, the Taliban are trying to win hearts and minds, they’re trying to convince political establishments, people outside the Taliban movement, to join and support the movement, they’re trying to secure international support, so I think it’s a bit too early to judge about what their long-term intentions are.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Saad Mohseni, CEO of Moby Media Group: “I mean, that’s what courage is. They’re obviously nervous and fearful as they should be, but they go about their work and that’s a reflection of how courageous they are, these kids in their twenties have made a tremendous difference in Afghanistan and Afghanistan’s media is one of our most important success stories over the last two decades, we certainly don’t want those gains to get reversed.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Saad Mohseni, CEO of Moby Media Group: “What the Taliban do in the coming weeks will determine what people do in the years ahead. This middle class, youth bulge, you know, sixty percent of Afghanistan is under the age of twenty. They can make or break the country, and if they leave, we lose our educated class. So it really is up to the Taliban in terms of how they behave, and their behaviour is going to impact what people will do in the months ahead.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*
