Tasty-cles! Chefs compete for tastiest testicle dish trophy in Serbia

Dozens of chefs from Serbia, Germany, Australia and abroad gathered in the small village of Lunjevica, Saturday, to take part in the World Testicle Cooking Competition - known locally as Mudriajda.

Balls from different kinds of animals were cooked, roasted and fried for the delight of visitors.

“First, all the world heard about that [the festival] and [only] later Serbia. I’m working now on our domestic people to come here and show what Serbs are. We are people with the biggest testicles,” a local said.

“I’m back every year once I discover that,” a visitor from Australia said. “It is a nice Serbian festival I think we fill the true Serbian hospitality and spirit,” she added.

An extra award is also given to the world personality who made the ‘ballsiest decision the year.’

The three-day festival is running every year since 2003.

SOT, Jovana Erovic, Head of festival (Serbian): “The first ‘Mudijada’ had an international note, people hear that idea and they like it. Unbelievable how they hear about that, and how the world hears about that. Actually, first, all the world heard about that and later Serbia. I’m working now on our domestic people to come here and show what Serbs are. We are people with the biggest testicles.”

SOT, Peter Atkinson, English chef: “[I come to the festival] because such lovely place to come and cook testicles. The people here are very nice and kind and we are grate time and grate social time it is interesting think to do, and we gonna see if we can place better then we did last time.”

SOT, Filemina Ozzie, Visitor from Australia: “I come back every year once I discovered it. I don’t know how I found that, on Facebook or somewhere. Maybe I just go see what it’s like, and yes I made so many friends here the first time that I was here, so I have been around to see all the regulars, [to say] hi hi. I see them once a year, the atmosphere here is so friendly, fun, the people who do this are crazy, you got to be a little bit crazy to compete. It is a nice Serbian festival, I think you feel the true Serbian hospitality and spirit. Everyone wants you to eat their food, and drink their rakija so yeah I will keep to coming back, and I’ll come back with friends each time now.”

SOT, Rely Bruce, American visitor: “I’ve seen Slaninijada, Kobasicijada, Kupusijada and Mudijada. So I was bringing groups to these events, because I found these events and I found Mudijada and honestly compared to Kobasicijada and Slaninijada, Kupusijada, Mudijada has been the best of in terms of friendliness.”
