European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johannsson gave a speech in Brussels on Tuesday regarding the need to support Afghan citizens and get behind the UN’s migrant plans.
“It’s important to see what we can do now to avoid a humanitarian crisis. This is the best way to avoid a migration crisis is to avoid a humanitarian crisis and that’s why we need to support Afghans in Afghanistan. The UN remains on the ground, they have people there, we can help them and support them,” stated Ylva Johannsson.
Johannsson gave the speech on the deadline day for the final repatriation flights.
“We’re acting much, much earlier, we should not wait until we have people standing at our external borders. But it’s also important that we have our legislation in place and that’s why we need to progress,” she went on to say.

The UN remains on the ground, they have people there, we can help them and support them. People that have been internally displaced have already started to move back to their homes. UN women are also supporting safe houses for women, there are a lot of things that we also can support in Afghanistan and we should do that.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*
