The Hague harbour partially flooded as Storm Corrie batters city with over 100km/h winds

Storm Corrie hit the city of The Hague on Monday with wind speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour (62 miles per hour), causing the harbour to be partially flooded.
Locals could be seen struggling to walk as the wind pushed them back, with walkways near the harbour being submerged by seawater.
Several fallen trees also lay strewn across roads and pathways.
On Monday, the Dutch Weather Institute (KNMI) issued weather warnings for the whole country.
The extreme weather led flights to and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport to be cancelled, whilst train services were disrupted throughout the Netherlands, according to local reports.

SOT, Bob Boelen, Local: “Well, what’s surprising is that the harbour heads, and you see the Lighthouse for the ships, they’re almost gone below the waves so the waves are higher than the lighthouse.”

SOT, Shelly Hoogelander, Local: “It looks like it’s very heavy weather today, very stormy so lots of trees are falling down. This is a quite big one in front of the school here. It looks like a real mess.”

SOT, Shelly Hoogelander, Local: “We have stormy weather sure, but not like this. This one is one of the worst, I think. It’s really terrible at the moment.”
