Tourists and locals alike strolled among the sand figures of the iconic Nativity scene made of sand from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in its sixteenth edition on Las Canteras beach on Thursday.

The attendees walked along a 1,500-metre route admiring the sand figures up to four metres high, modelled with 2,000 tons of sand and water by 10 artists, such as Rodrigo Cesar de Magalhaes (Portugal) and Johannes Christolfel (Holland), from 8 countries around the world.

Figures of the Three Wise Men, peasants, shepherds with their sheep, camels and other objects such as castles or sand walls were the protagonists of one of the most special Nativity scenes.

This year, the Nativity Scene dedicates its artistic proposal to La Palma in solidarity with the victims of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano.
