The first rally Donald Trump has held since the start of the coronavirus lockdown in the US failed to fill a 19,000-seat arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ahead of the event, the White House claimed a million Americans had expressed interest in tickets. However, concerns had been raised after Oklahoma’s department of health warned that attendees faced an increased risk of catching Covid-19.

Speaking at the rally, the US President declared he was on course to win a second term in the White House: “Five months from now, we’re going to defeat sleepy Joe Biden.”

Anti-racism protesters gathered outside the arena, but demonstrations were mostly peaceful.
