Turkey: Helicopters continue firefighting ops as Marmaris fire rages on

Firefighting helicopters were seen battling flames in Marmaris on Monday, as sweltering fires spread across the Turkish coast.

Multiple helicopters flew over blazing trails of black smoke, trying to put out the fire with containers filled with water. Locals and tourists have been forced to evacuate the affected area.

The death toll from the Turkey fires climbed to eight on Sunday after the bodies of a Turkish-German couple were found in their burned home in Manavgat, Antalya.

A ban from entering forests is currently in place in many of Turkey’s provinces to help prevent further incidents. Several regions have been deemed ‘disaster areas’ by the authorities. The blaze is yet another in a series of forest fires affecting the Mediterranean coast. Areas in Italy, Lebanon, Syria, Greece, and Cyprus were also hit by forest fires this summer.
