Turkey: Police disperse and arrest protesters at Suruc bombing anniv demo in Istanbul

Several protesters were seen detained as police intervened to disperse people gathered in Istanbul, Tuesday, on the anniversary of a suicide bombing that killed 33 people and injured dozens in Suruc in 2015.

People were seen scuffling with police, as the latter used pepper spray, arresting some protesters.

The attack which happened on July 20, 2015, targeted a mostly student gathering at Amara Cultural Centre. Attendees were members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Youth Wing and the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), who talked about their planned trip to the Syrian town of Kobani to help with its reconstruction. The self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) took responsibility for the attack.
