UAE: Dubai locals divided as Israeli President Herzog to pay first state visit

Dubai residents shared their opinions on the upcoming visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog to the country.

While some backed the Emirati authorities in following the principle of ‘spreading the peace’ and uniting the countries on his land, some questioned the measure and called for solidarity with Palestine.

“We stand with the government in its decision to establish relations with any country, whether Israel or any other country. This of course encourages other countries to build relations because this is part of the principle of spreading peace,” one local said.

“I am against this idea, the visit of the Israeli president to the UAE, we oppose a state of Israel [representative] to be in an Arab country, I am Palestinian and my ancestors are from there and I did not have the opportunity to visit my country,” another resident commented.

Herzog’s stay will become Israel’s first-ever state visit to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday. The president is expected to hold meetings with top officials in Dubai and Abu Dhabi until Monday.
