UAE: SpaceX rocket mock-up featured at US pavilion in EXPO 2020

The United States has offered visitors to its pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai a unique journey into innovations and technologies, including those in the space arena.

The tallest structure at the expo, a 43-metre model of SpaceX’s popular Falcon 9 rocket, the world’s first orbital-class reusable rocket, was on display at the pavilion on Saturday.

Among the various space-themed exhibits in the American pavilion is one of the largest samples of lunar rock, collected by astronaut Jack Schmitt during the Apollo 17 mission. Visitors can also admire the marine basalt that is estimated to be 3.75 billion years old and more ancient than almost all rocks on Earth’s surface.

The various space rocks can be touched through the glass so visitors can make a wish or imagine getting superpowers. A sample of Martian meteorite found in Antarctica, as well as a model of the Mars rover Opportunity, which landed on the planet in 2004 and “died” in 2018 due to a dust storm, were also on display.

According to the creators, the US Pavilion celebrates the American spirit: the people, ideas and contributions that improve lives around the world to build a brighter tomorrow. Its main theme “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of the Future” is strongly linked to American achievements in space.
