UK: Govt will do "everything possible" to help resettle Afghan evacuees – PM Johnson

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the government will do ‘everything possible’ to help Afghan evacuees fleeing the Taliban resettle in the country, during a House of Commons statement in Westminster, London, on Monday.

Johnson stated that 20,000 vulnerable Afghans will be given indefinite leave to remain in the UK over the coming years under a new separate resettlement scheme, with 5,000 to be taken in during the scheme’s first year.

In addition, adult evacuees entering the UK via this route will be given free English courses, and 300 university scholarships will be made available.

Johnson’s update regarding the current situation in Afghanistan came as the Taliban stated it was now in charge of the whole country, following the capture of Panjshir province, with the claim being refuted by the leader of the resistance force.
