Protesters gathered in front of the House of Parliament in London, Thursday, to protest against the Nationality and Borders bill as the Lords prepare to vote on proposed amendments to the new rules planned by the Home Office.
The government says the bill aims to improve the asylum system, deter illegal entry to the country, and remove illegal immigrants. Opponents say a clause in the law will make it easier for the Home Office to strip people of British citizenship without notice, which can be deemed a human rights violation.
“It is disgusting how Ethnic people are being treated in this country,” a protester said.
The nationality and borders bill is currently being debated in the House of Lords.

SOT, Marvina Newton (Protester): “I never knew it could be a crime to come from another country and have your voice and influence silenced through this bill. And we need to stand in unity, act like allies, act when we see inequality, advocate and accept that this government is corrupt. Learn, and learn alone on our conscious biases, listen to the voices of those oppressed. I hope you can be an ally to this and help kill the bill.”
SOT, Errol (Protester): “I am a national of this country, and I don’t see why they should have the power to throw people like me out who were born here just because my parents came from another place in a different time. I should still have the right to retain my citizenship in the country I was born in. So that’s the reason why I am here.”
SOT, Errol (Protester): “It’s disgusting what’s going on, and how ethnic people are being treated by this government. It’s disgusting, but we have to get together and fight these bills.”
SOT, Ahammed Hussain (Protester): “So the nationality and borders bill specifically will allow the Home Secretary to strip people’s citizenship without any notice. Now, stripping citizenship is a human rights violation. So how is the government going around it by looking at individuals who can theoretically apply to citizenship elsewhere. You could say the BAME community, but also the Northern Irish, the Scots, if Scotland goes independent, any European in this country, we are all under threat from this bill.”
