UK: Met commissioner confirms investigation into Downing Street parties during lockdown

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick confirmed the alleged parties thrown by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police in a statement made in London on Tuesday.

Dick’s statement confirms that the government will be investigated for “potential breaches of COVID-19 regulations.” She stated however that the investigation thus far does not mean “that fixed penalty notices will necessarily be issued in every instance and to every person involved” and confirmed that updates would be given at “significant points.”

Boris Johnson and other senior Cabinet members are accused of throwing parties that breached COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time, including a birthday party for Johnson in which 30 guests were invited.
