UK: Police clash with XR activists throwing red paint at London's Guildhall

Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmental activists clashed with police during a so-called ‘Blood Money March’ through the City of London on Friday, which aimed to target the country’s major financial institutions.

Activists clambered above the entrance of the Standard Chartered bank, smearing the building with red paint to symbolise fake blood, before moving on to the Guildhall North Wing.

The campaign group then marched through the streets, bringing local traffic to a standstill, with one activist seen being arrested.

The rally is the latest in a series of protests to be held by the environmental campaign group, which will span across two weeks, ahead of November’s Cop 26 conference in Glasgow.
