Demonstrators gathered outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in London on Saturday to call an end to the military intervention after the civilian government was ousted in October.
Saudi Arabia, along with the UAE, had previously held good relations with Sudan, and have urged that a civilian government be reinstated.
The protest followed an increase in tensions in the country after five people were killed in anti-coup protests in the capital Khartoum.
On 25 October 2021, the Sudanese military, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, dissolved the transitional government and declared a state of emergency. Former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, was detained and is now being held at his home.

SOT, Nur, Protester: “It is important to show solidarity with the people of Sudan. I mean, there are non-armed, non-violent civilians protesting in Sudan in front of live ammunition, armoured vehicles and military that intents to kill people. So, for that reason it is important to be here.”
SOT, Nadir, Protester: “We are Sudanese living in London. We are here out today, as political allies, trade unions, community, from all over the UK. We stand in front of the three embassies. They are United Arab Emirates, Egypt embassy, and lastly the Saudi embassy asking them to respect our support, the choice of the Sudanese, for responsibility for a democratic government. And not to support the military and the militias, who are now killing and taking over in Sudan.”
