Ukraine: Nikolayevka village shelled by AFU - LNR authorities

Ukrainian forces have allegedly violated the ceasefire agreements and shelled the village of Nikolayevka at self-proclaimed Lugansk People Republic [LPR] on Thursday, authorities claim.

“According to the updated information, in violation with the ceasefire agreement, the Ukrainian forces using 122mm artillery fired in the direction of Nikolayevka village using 122mm artillery. As a result, apartment buildings’ windows were damaged,” reported the LPR representatives at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination on ceasefire and stabilization of the demarcation line [JCCC].

One of the locals tearfully shared her emotions following the shelling, “we have lived here all our lives, we don’t know what to do, but it’s terrible. It’s beyond words; you don’t know where to run.”

In response, Ukrainian forces accused Lugansk of shelling the kindergarten in government-controlled Stanitsa Luhanska, which reportedly injured two staff members.

Ukraine and self-proclaimed republics accuse each other of heavy shelling on Thursday. “The situation on the line of contact has sharply escalated. The enemy is making attempts to unleash active hostilities,” self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) officials said via Telegram channel.

Ukraine denied the accusations, with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeting in response, “We call on all partners to swiftly condemn this severe violation of Minsk agreements by Russia amid an already tense security situation.”

On Wednesday, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov claimed that it was very likely that Ukraine would seek a military solution to the conflict. “The attention of our interlocutors is drawn to the fact that a military operation and an attempt to resolve problems with the use of force in the southeast are quite real,” and added, “this probability is high and real.”
