‘Ukraine War: Putin PURGED General Armageddon?’

Some of Russia’s top generals haven’t been seen since the Wagner mutiny. Is Vladimir Putin purging his own commanders?

Known as ‘General Armageddon’ on account of a ruthless and brutal reputation forged in the Syrian war, he was put in command of Russian forces in Ukraine late last year. He’s reported to have been very close to Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Surovikin was last seen in a video on the 24th of June, in which he encouraged Wagner troops to call off the mutiny. It’s been speculated that the apparently exhausted looking Surovikin may have been making the statement under duress.

And he’s not the only top general that’s been absent from view since the mutiny. Valery Gerasimov, who was often singled out for criticism by Wagner’s Prigozhin, has also not been seen in public for a week.

All of this, is fuelling speculation that Putin may now have started a purge of anyone he believes poses a threat to his authority.
