Ukrainian border city locals react to escalating tensions with Russia

Residents and visitors of Kharkiv, which is located 40 kilometres from the Russian border, shared their opinions on the escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine on Saturday.

On Friday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that panic had increased in the country due to reports of the threat of war with Russia. The leader of the state urged journalists to stop escalating the situation in the press.

On Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry also declared the groundlessness of the panic that is being created by the media around the situation with Ukraine, using the example of the video clip of the Swiss broadcaster SRF “Russia is pulling its troops to the border with Ukraine.”

The diplomatic department noted that the hype about the current situation “has reached the extreme boiling point, or, rather, the extreme stage of insanity.”

During a press conference with reporters in Arlington on Friday, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted that the country is not seeking to resolve the escalating conflict with the help of the military. He stressed that the United States ” has offered Russia a path away from crisis and toward greater security.”
