Panic over Russia tensions has been taking its toll on Ukraine’s economy, president Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference with foreign media representatives in Kiev on Friday.

“The media give the impression that there is a war going on, that we have troops on the streets, mobilisation, people are moving somewhere. It’s not like that. We don’t need this panic. And this is a very important point. I am not saying that the escalation can’t happen. We are already talking about it openly for 8 years. It has already happened,” the Ukrainian leader said.

Earlier on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is ready for dialogue with Zelensky, but he noted that Donbas is exclusively an internal Ukrainian issue and cannot be discussed with Moscow: “If Zelensky wants to discuss Donbas, let him go to the contact group”.

Ukraine is not planning an offensive into Donbas or neighbouring countries, Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) Secretary Aleksey Danilov said on Monday.
