Ukraine: Kiev ‘not afraid’ of direct dialogue with Moscow on Donbass - Zelensky

Direct talks with Russia are needed to solve the conflict in Donbass, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in Kiev on Wednesday.

“We won’t be able to stop the war without holding direct talks with Russia. All the external partners have acknowledged that but some of the internal ones haven’t,” Zelensky said during his state-of-the-nation address to the Verkhovna Rada, the country’s parliament

“I’m not afraid to talk directly to them [Russia]. We are not afraid of direct dialogue,” he stated.

He added Kiev knows which European nations support Ukraine’s independence and which only pretend to do so.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader said that in 2022 the financing of the defence and security sector of Ukraine of all programs will exceed 320 billion hryvnias ($11.8bn, €10.4bn).
