Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro delivered his speech at the United Nations 76th General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
The president demanded what he described as the ‘criminal sanctions’ against the South American country be lifted, and spoke about the dialogue with opposition factions recently held in Mexico.
During his speech, which was prerecorded, Maduro reiterated his view that there was a ‘fierce campaign’ of ‘permanent aggression’ against Venezuela and a persecution “against the economic rights and economic guarantees that all the peoples of the world should enjoy.”

SOT, Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela (Spanish): “Venezuela denounces the fierce campaign and denounces permanent and systematic aggression through economic, financial, oil, cruel sanctions, through persecution against the right to economic freedom, against economic rights and economic guarantees that all the peoples of the world should enjoy. A ferocious onslaught against the right to buy what our country needs and against the right to sell what our country produces.”

SOT, Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela (Spanish): “It is a financial, monetary, commercial, economic, energy, systematic, cruel and criminal persecution. And Venezuela raises its voice to denounce it before the peoples of the world.”

SOT, Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela (Spanish): “We ratify our request, our demand that all criminal sanctions against the Venezuelan economy, against Venezuelan society by the United States of America, and by the governments of the European Union, be lifted. We say this with the reason and morality that we have, and we say it in the name of 30 million Venezuelan men and women.”

SOT, Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela (Spanish): “This year we have set up several talks with the business sectors, with the social sectors, with the trade union sectors, with all the political sectors, we have ratified the path of dialogue, but in particular we have set up a national dialogue for peace and sovereignty in Mexico City, recently on August 13. It is a very important process of dialogue that seeks to ensure that the most extremist opposition sectors that were seeking a coup d’état in Venezuela, that promoted a foreign invasion of our lands, that prepared assassination plots to murder me, that these extremist sectors return to politics, return to the Constitution, return to the electoral path.”

SOT, Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela (Spanish): “I am grateful for the support of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, for the dialogue process in Mexico; and I ask for the full support of the United Nations so that the dialogue process in Mexico advances towards new partial agreements and towards a global agreement to strengthen peace, sovereignty, prosperity and the integral recovery of Venezuela. I ask for it and I thank you for it.”
