USA: Aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford completes shock trials

The US Navy performed the final shock trial of its newest aircarft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford with an underwater blast off the coast of Florida on Sunday.

It was the third explosion during the last 18 months of testing aimed at checking the warship’s preparedness for battle conditions.

Following the test, the vessel is set to thoroughly assessed for any damage to its structure as a result of the tests.

The USS Gerald R. Ford, which is the newest acquisition of the US Navy since 1987, is planned to be operational by 2022.
