Dozens of anti-Taliban protesters rallied outside the White House, Washington DC, on Saturday.

“There is a huge humanitarian crisis, we are being told one thing but the reality on the ground is something else. We are being lied to,” commented Mariam Kazemi, a member of the Afghan diaspora and protest organiser.

“We need to hear from those left behind, we were your allies, we stood shoulder to shoulder with you. You turned your back on us, you have betrayed us. Fix this,” added Kazemi, as protesters condemned the US government’s evacuation efforts.

Taliban forces took over the Afghanistan last week after a swift advance amid the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from the country.

Coalition members have been rushing to evacuate remaining troops, diplomatic staff and thousands of refugees. Reports have emerged of the Taliban conducting house to house searches.
