US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced plans to visit Qatar and Germany to participate in talks regarding the situation in Afghanistan, during a press conference in Washington DC on Friday.

He said the US was in ‘constant contact’ with Americans wishing to leave Afghanistan, and that there is ‘absolutely no deadline’ for the evacuation efforts, with many of the remaining citizens being dual Afghan nationals.

The State Secretary went on to announce his upcoming trip to Doha, which will involve meeting with Qatari leaders and expressing ‘deep gratitude’ for the country’s support of the US efforts, as well as visiting Afghans preparing to travel to the US.

“From there, we are heading to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where again I’ll have the chance to meet with Afghans awaiting processing and the Americans who are staffing that effort,” said Blinken.
Blinken is set to hold talks with FM Maas in Germany and to join a virtual meeting with partners from more than 20 other countries.
