LIVE: Blinken holds press briefing on Afghanistan evacuations

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is holding a press briefing in Washington DC, on Wednesday, August 25.

Blinken is expected to update the media about the ongoing evacuation efforts in Afghanistan as more than 80,000 people were airlifted by the coalition flights since August 14.

It comes as Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced that the group would not agree to an extension of the August 31 deadline for the departure of Afghans and foreigners.

On the same day, Blinken is also set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett making his first official visit to Washington. The regional tensions and Israeli response will also be discussed at a meeting with President Joe Biden on Thursday.
