USA: New Yorkers react to Gov Cuomo"s resignation amid sexual harassment report

New Yorkers reacted to news of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation on Tuesday after an investigation found he sexually harassed 11 women.

“I personally think it was needed for him to resign. It’s definitely going to be chaotic for the next couple of months but I’m definitely glad he resigned and is kind of out of his position,” said Bibiana.

New York resident Sebastian said, “If he did do the things that he did, if it’s true that he did it, then he should resign, but if it’s not true and if it’s a lie then he should fight to stay in his position. I guess he got a lot of heat from everybody.”

“Cuomo did a lot for us during the pandemic when everything was shut down and he went out there to fight for us so I don’t know what I feel about it per se,” he continued.

Richard, a New Yorker, called Cuomo’s resignation ‘good.’

“I feel like most people who go through this need to speak up, especially women because women are in the scene who actually go to work, live in a man’s world, and most women have to follow the man’s rules and if they don’t do what the man says they will get eliminated or just fired,” he added.

Cuomo resigned a week after the 165-page report found that he created a ‘climate of fear’ and a ‘hostile work environment’ which violated civil laws against workplace harassment.

US President Joe Biden told reporters on Tuesday that he respects the New York governor’s decision to resign.

SOT, Bibiana, Local resident: “I mean I personally think it was needed for him to resign. It’s definitely going to be chaotic over the next couple of months but I’m definitely glad he resigned and is kind of out of his position now.”

SOT, Sebastian, Local resident: “I don’t know, I just feel like, honestly, Cuomo did a lot for us during the pandemic when everything was shut down and he went out there to fight for us so I don’t know what I feel about it per se. If he did do the things that he did, if it’s true that he did it, then he should resign, but if it’s not true and if it’s a lie then he should fight to stay in his position. I guess he got a lot of heat from everybody and I understand. But I don’t feel any type of way about it. It’s all a game guys, politics is all a game. It’s all a game. They’re going to put somebody else there that they want and then watch what he does and then if he does something that is out of line he will get hit with the same type of lawsuit as Cuomo did.”

SOT, Blanca, Local resident: “So in that way, would be like, oh I can feel like a little bit more protected. I can go wherever I want. I can dress whatever way I want and people are like, I know I’m going to be more protected because if people with power are going to be like that down, what’s going to happen with another person that is a nobody in the street, you know, or my boss, you know, who is nobody. So it’s wonderful that things like that are happening right now.”

SOT, Richard, Local resident: “Well I think it’s a good idea because you shouldn’t abuse woman and their rights and I feel like he’s kind of been doing it for such a long time that it finally came towards light and I also didn’t really like the fact that, not only that but I don’t like the fact that he didn’t handle COVID really well, when COVID actually outbroke. And I think that was another part that actually took place because the women actually probably bribed him and told him if you don’t step down I’m going to release everything you did to me and I guess that they actually did bribe him and he didn’t listen and so they actually leaked all the information that has been done over the years. So I actually think it’s actually good. I feel like most people who go through this need to speak up, especially women because women are in the scene who actually go to work, live in a man’s world, and most women have to follow the man’s rules and if they don’t do what the man says they will get eliminated or just fired or they won’t move up in the ladder, so that’s why I feel most women need to speak up and not fall for the victim of another man just because he has power and money.”
