The first fully-vaccinated international travellers touched down in New York City’s JFK airport on Monday, after a 20-month ban was lifted to curb COVID infection rates.

Scenes of joy unfolded, as families and loved ones were reunited for the first time since March 2020, when former US President Donald Trump introduced the measures.

The travel limitations affected non-US citizens from over 30 countries, causing havoc for some families and the tourism industry.

Under the new travel guidelines, non-US visitors must show proof of full vaccination, provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within three days of departure and provide contact tracing details.
