USA: Protesters rally against Bolsonaro ahead of UN speech in NYC

Dozens of protesters rallied against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro ahead of his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York City on Tuesday.
One demonstrator said “We are here because Brazil is going through a chaotic situation.”
“In Brazil today, we have almost 600,000 people dead with COVID, unprecedented economic crisis in Brazil,” she added.
Anti-Bolsonaro messages were also portrayed on a large screen on the side of a vehicle near the UN headquarters.
The Brazilian president has presided over a devastating COVID-19 pandemic in the country, while his environmental policies have been widely criticised as ignoring and worsening the climate crisis.
Bolsonaro responded at the UN by saying that his country was being portrayed unfairly in the media.
The unvaccinated president also broke the UN’s ‘honour system’ rules asking all in-person attendees to the assembly to be fully vaccinated.
