Russia could at any point invade Ukraine, said White House press secretary Jen Psaki in Washington DC on Tuesday.

“President Putin has created this crisis by amassing thousands of troops at Ukraine’s borders,” said Psaki, adding, “Our view is that this an extremely dangerous situation. We’re now at a stage where Russia could at any point launch an attack in Ukraine.”
She added that there is a diplomatic way forward in the crisis and a path that would bear ‘severe consequences’ for Russia if it invades Ukraine.

Psaki also mentioned the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, saying that Germany has stopped the certification process.

“Our view continues to be that stopping the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is a credible piece we hold over Russian at this point in time,” concluded Psaki.

Her comments came as Secretary of State Antony Blinken was set to meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Geneva later in the week to discuss the Ukraine crisis.
