Several activists were arrested as groups of pro-choice and pro-life protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court in Washington DC, ahead of Monday’s first session of the Supreme Court fall term.
Pro-choice demonstrators held a sit-down protest as police monitored the gathering, before announcing that those who did not move from the street would be arrested.

Shortly afterwards, officers began to arrest both pro- and anti-abortion activists who had refused to leave the area.

“I am here for my daughter, for my daughter-in-law, I have two grandchildren. It’s my body, my choice,” said pro-choice activist Killan O’Dowd.

New abortion regulations in the state of Texas went into effect earlier in September, restricting termination of pregnancy after six weeks’ gestation.

SOT, Wendy Moore, Pro-life activist: “My own mother, who was raped, raised me as her daughter. I am her human daughter. I was never less than human from day one until I was born and just because I was conceived in rape it didn’t make me less human. I wasn’t some other creature. I had to have day one in order to have day twenty, and day twenty I had to have in order to have six months, and without any of those days I wouldn’t be here. My life, my human life would have ended. I am a woman and I chose life, I choose life for me. My body, my choice.”

SOT, Killan O’Dowd, Pro-choice activist: “The march brought us here, we actually had a van full of women had to leave yesterday but I wanted to stay here to be here today for the opening of the Supreme Court.”

SOT, Killan O’Dowd, Pro-choice activist: “We are still gonna fight, we have to fight. My body, my choice, I am here for my daughter, for my daughter-in-law, I have two grandchildren. It’s my body, my choice. You know what, I feel so badly for all those young women who have been raped, incest rape, and they have no choice in Texas now, none. It’s just not acceptable, no bans on our bodies, no bans.”
